Kenneth Bauer is a Los Angeles cinematographer. We sat down with Kenneth and asked some questions:
What's parked in your driveway right now and what's the story behind it?
A 2 door Jeep Wrangler. When I was a kid, I was obsessed with Jurassic Park, mainly because I wanted that 2 door Jeep. My dad always told me to drive something with good gas mileage, but his hobby was building classic hot rods and filling them up with 91 octane.
What’s the one thing you own that you’ll never get rid of?
My 1971 Yamaha JT1 Mini Enduro — not only the dirt bike I learned to ride on, but my dad’s old bike he bought when he was 15. It may be tiny for a 6′2″ 35 year old man living in Southern California, but it has a huge amount of sentimental value — and of course it still runs.
What is one of your best memories?
Living in nowhere Ohio, standing in the pouring rain and watching the lightning strike in the middle of summer.
What kind of creator are you?
I’m a filmmaker at heart with a passion for cinematography and storytelling. If someone stumbles upon my page, I hope my content resonates with a feeling of nostalgia and optimism through the beauty of the outdoors.
Who inspires you the most every day?
I grew up hearing stories from my grandma about all the movies she worked on and brought to film in Ohio. She is the reason I became interested in working in the motion picture industry, eventually moving out to Los Angeles, and pursuing a career in IATSE Local 80.

What’s in your pockets right now?
Utility knife, compact flashlight, 3/16 speed wrench, sharpie — every day of the week.
What gets you out of bed before the sun’s up?
Easy question — to not miss another beautiful sunrise.
What did your old man teach you that stuck?
The cheapest vacation is to go out in nature and camp. Not only did it stick, it became my entire escape plan. When I feel overwhelmed and stressed with everything going on in my life, camping helps quiet those thoughts.
Where’s the spot you keep going back to and why?
Up the 395 in the Eastern Sierra — the best camping views in California in my honest opinion.
